After the conclusion of the two-part TV special Madoff starring Richard Dreyfuss, a number of real people connected to the real Bernie Madoff case will be interviewed for the one-hour special After the Fall. Those include Madoff’s secretary of 25 years Eleanor Squillari, financial investigator Harry Markopolos, former FBI agent Keith Kelly, and Madoff’s attorney, Ira Sorkin.
Sorkin is best known for representing Madoff but he has represented other billionaires throughout his career, too. After serving as an Assistant US Attorney and then Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division of the US Attorney’s Office in New York City in the 1970s, Sorkin became a defense attorney. At the law firm of Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Sheinfeld, one of his first private clients was Rupert Murdoch. In the 1990s, Sorkin represented Jordan Belfort and his “over-the-counter” brokerage house Stratton Oakmont. Belfort was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the Martin Scorcese film The Wolf Of Wall Street. In exchange for a plea deal with the FBI, Belfort served 22 months of a four-year sentence. Madoff got 150 years. The Madoff special, After the Fall, will air February 4 at 10pm on ABC.
