The Growing Up Hip Hop episode “The Master Plan” is chock full of drama. While Master P puts his son Romeo Miller (formerly Lil’ Romeo) on notice and a stalker threatens Rev. Run’s daughter Angela Simmons, Kristinia DeBarge is blindsided by news concerning her jailed father, James DeBarge. Kristina, 25, is the eldest of James’ three children.

James DeBarge was the lead singer of the 1980s family group DeBarge. The group’s big hits included “All This Love” and “Love Me in a Special Way” and “Rhythm of the Night.” He was briefly married to Janet Jackson in 1984. The marriage was annulled less than a year later. In 2012, James DeBarge was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and drug charges. In April 2014, he was arrested again on drug charges. DeBarge is currently serving time at Los Angeles County Men’s Jail, where he reportedly sang with inmate Chris Brown in 2014, after Brown broke his parole.
