The #5 Chiefs take on the #4 Texans in the Lone Star State on Saturday January 9 at 4:35 ET on ABC. The Chiefs enter the game a strange underdog — if you’re a believer in that all powerful force called momentum. Kansas City is 10-0 since going 1-5 and they simply don’t give up points. If the Texans (9-7) put all of 13 points on the board, they’ll have done better than the last ten Chiefs opponents on average. (The Chiefs have given up 12.8 points per game in the last ten wins.) Naysayers (and Texans fans) say the teams the Chiefs blockaded weren’t up to snuff — none of their last six opponents are in the playoffs.
Despite that, the Chiefs are favored by a field goal even though they’re away from home. The Texans pride themselves on defense too, ranking third in the NFL, with perhaps the NFL’s best defensive lineman, J.J. Watt, stalking opposing offenses for the Houston. The Texans also started poorly (2-5) before turning things around. In a game earlier this season, Kansas City beat the Texans 27-20 after a Houston rally fell short.
