The following 2paragraphs are by Tom Cridland, 25-year-old designer and creator of the 30 Year Sweatshirt. It all started when he made some pants for Leo DiCaprio…
The 30 Year Sweatshirt project was inspired by my making Tom Cridland trousers for Leonardo DiCaprio. I’d always loved Leonardo’s work as an actor but, as a result of having the opportunity to design something for him, I found out a lot more about his work as an environmentalist. Leonardo does something he loves, but gives something back too. It inspired me to try to launch a sustainable fashion project that’s perhaps less stuffy and preachy that some of its predecessors. That’s the way Leonardo does his work for the environment, and I used his style of activism as a model to do something with my design work that also gives back and champions sustainability.

The video (see below) on our Indiegogo campaign page is just a joke until the last 30 seconds when we explain the serious reasons behind The 30 Year Sweatshirt. It’s a beautifully handmade wardrobe staple that will undoubtedly last for three decades and hopefully our backers will enjoy the guarantee aspect of the project. It’s no gimmick; I may be 25 but I decided on 30 Years because our artisanal suppliers in Portugal have been doing this for over 50 years and have sweatshirts made in the 70s that remain in perfect condition.
