On Code Black, while Dr. Malaya Pineda (Melanie Chandra) gets an unexpected visit from her pregnant ex-girlfriend Carla Niven (Shiri Appleby), Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden) is forced to choose between treating police officer Tom Moreno (Michael Trucco) who helped her during her family accident and his shooter, who is more seriously injured. Moreno tells Dr. Rorish that the shooter “came out of nowhere.” Even if that’s true, should it matter?
