Two sisters, Rosie and Donna, are behind Surprise Ride – the subscription gift service that’s designed to provoke creativity among children. Each month, a box with a creative activity (e.g. painting a bird feeder) is delivered to the door of a child. In the box is a book with instructions, a snack, and fun extras (e.g. stickers, toys) related to the activity. A monthly subscription to Surprise Ride sells for $30/a month. But if you pay upfront for six-months, it’s $26/month. If you pay upfront for the whole year it’s $25/month.

The sisters, who are former investment bankers with MBAs, pitched their business on Shark Tank. They didn’t get an investment but they did get high praise from Lori Greiner and Kevin O’Leary. They quote the two sharks on their website. “The finest and best made gift box for kids that I’ve ever seen. I love it,” says Lori Greiner. “A huge hit, one of the ones that got away,” says Mr. Wonderful.
