Fast food giant McDonald’s is ditching its dollar menu for a two-dollar menu called McPick 2. Customers will be able to buy a McDouble, a McChicken, a sleeve of small fries, and/or mozzarella sticks for $2 each. The Dollar Menu hasn’t existed for two years — the Dollar Menu and More has been trying to cater to the value-seeking customers. It contained food items that cost no more than $5.
“Some of the challenges we’ve had in the US have been somewhat self-inflicted,” McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook said during a conference call. “We moved away from the Dollar Menu and didn’t replace it with significant-enough value in the eyes of consumers.” The McPick 2 promotion will run nationally for five weeks beginning January 4, 2016. But it’s up to the franchises — whose owners haven’t all been happy lately — to extend the promotion.
