Two baseball players from Oakland, California, Matt Canepa and Pat Pezet (they met while playing ball at Cal Poly), are behind Grinds Coffee Pouches, an alternative to chewing tobacco. Grinds comes in a circular metal cans just like traditional chewing tobacco but it’s filled with flavored coffee grinds instead of tobacco. Grinds is pitched as a good way to kick the chewing tobacco habit and/or as a healthy alternative (there’s B-Vitamin in there for an energy boost just like in cans of Red Bull).

One Grinds can has about 18-20 pouches and has the caffeine equivalent of 4 or 5 cups of coffee. Canepa and Pezet pitched their product on Shark Tank and accepted an offer from Robert Herjavec and Daymond John. Grinds comes in six flavors – Cinnamon Roll, Caramel, Mint Chocolate, Peppermint, Mocha, and Vanilla. A 3-can sample sells for $11.99 on the Grinds website.
