LeBron James reportedly stepped away from the business between his Cleveland Cavaliers and his pal, forward Tristan Thompson. Thompson didn’t report to camp, holding out for better money and a show of loyalty — Thompson wanted his money guaranteed. Today the sides announced they’d reached an agreement that’ll pay Thompson $82 million over five years, and the loot is guaranteed.
Thompson had better show up well-conditioned for that kind of money, but his relationship with James — and James’s emphasis on winning and responsibility — would seem to guarantee that too. Still, whatever off court shape Thompson is in, he’ll have a late start for getting in real game shape and coach David Blatt will have to watch Thompson’s minutes upon his return. Thompson and James have the same agent, Clutch Sports owner Rich Paul.
