In the fifth season of Once Upon a Time, Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is trying to fight her new dark urges as The Dark One in the Enchanted Forest. But she needs help. A lot! So she journeys to Camelot in search of Merlin. On the way, she cross paths with King Arthur and his Knight, and the redheaded Scottish princess Merida. Once Upon a Time producer/writer Edward Kitsis said: “If you watch the movie Brave, Merida’s problem is that she punches first and asks questions second, and that’s what we’re seeing here. We’re going to find her in the middle of a very intense situation, and we’re definitely going to explore her story more.”

Merida is portrayed by Scottish-born actress Amy Manson. The 30-year-old has an impressive resume. She’s been on tons of successful TV series in the UK including Casualty (Abby), Desperate Romantics
