Decoding Donald Trump shouldn’t be hard. After all, both Trump’s supporters and detractors seem to agree on one thing: Trump is a blunt speaker who doesn’t mince words. The only problem with this view is that it doesn’t jibe well with the picture of Trump as a master negotiator, a role where nuance and subtlety (yes, Trump occasionally practices subtlety) are huge factors in determining who comes out on top. Whatever the criticisms of Trump, it’s hard to deny that he has had success in business. Plenty of failures, too, but nothing that has crushed him. So decoding Trump remains a real necessity — because he’s not as blunt as he lets on. Recently Trump announced he’d bought the NBC-owned half of the Miss Universe business with a tweet that said: “Now own 100% — stay tuned!”
He didn’t own it long. This morning WME | IMG announced it had purchased the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA properties. “Stay tuned” in Trump speak apparently means a deal is going down and going down fast.
