Viktor Kiraly is a professional singer so it doesn’t seem fair that he’s on The Voice in the Blind Auditions. But he hasn’t made it yet in America. Viktor was born in New York but returned to his mother’s motherland of Hungary (Budapest) when he was a teen. Since then, he’s found his calling as a singer. He has a number of singles on the radio in Hungary.
[Krista Hughes Twangs, Hooks Blake Shelton on ‘The Voice’]
On The Voice, Viktor sang “What’s Going On” a song best associated with the late great Marvin Gaye. But leave it to Pharrell (one of the four judges to turn around during Viktor’s performance) to identify and commend Viktor for choosing (another late great) Donny Hathaway version. Viktor confessed to having lyrics of a Hathaway song tattooed on his back. You would think that was enough of a connection for Viktor to pick Pharrell but he choose the first judge who turned around for him, Adam Levine. Probably because Levine as well as Blake Shelton both predicted that Viktor would likely win. Shelton said he could see the headline, “The Voice Viktor” (as in Victor).” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
