Former Redskins coach and two-time Super Bowl champ Mike Shanahan says the Washington Redskins will have a good season. With the quarterback controversy out of the way (wishful thinking?) and Kirk Cousins winning the spot from Robert Griffin III, Shanahan thinks the tide will turn for Washington. Speaking on the Dan Patrick Show, Shanahan said Washington will be much better than people think they will.”

Of course that depends on which people are doing the thinking. Owner Dan Snyder and coach Jay Gruden probably have pretty big expectations. Shanahan coached the Redskins for four seasons from 2010 through 2013; he saw Griffin at his best and near worst. On the show Shanahan said that, in his opinion, Griffin’s troubles derived less from his checkered health than from ill-advised offensive strategy. Shanahan said Dan Snyder was very much in the mix on the strategic decisions. Shanahan doesn’t think the owner’s input did his quarterback much good.
