Rita Houston, the passionate program director at indie icon and roots radio stalwart WFUV in New York, talks about Wilco’s Solid Sound festival like it’s nirvana. (Not the band, the state of mind.) Houston raves about Solid State’s unique charm among festivals: how Jeff Tweedy and Wilco are known to just traipse around the grounds at Mass MOCA, serenading lucky attendees. The serenade was extended this year to include everyone, as the band indulged the crowd with a set tailor-made for the nature-rich setting: an all-natural 26 song acoustic set.
