Kristaps Porzingis can’t hide. First of all, he’s 7’1″. That’s an impediment to keeping a low profile. Secondly the 19-year-old Latvian giant just got picked by the New York Knicks in the NBA draft. There are no brighter media lights focused on pro sports than the high-beam New York lights. If you think Porzingis looks big now, wait until you see him under the microscope! But even though fans booed Phil Jackson’s selection of Porzingis at No. 4 overall, the big man was cool.
“I mean a lot of fans weren’t happy that they drafted me, but I have to do everything that’s in my hands to turn those booing fans into clapping fans. There’s nothing I can do. I was happy about it,” said Porzingis. Pretty mature for a 19-year-old. And exceptionally graceful considering that Porzingis was speaking in English, not even his first language, while the monosyllabic fans just said boo.
