It would normally be the most compelling quarterfinal in the tournament — this match between the two Swiss men, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. Federer is seeded No. 2 and his countryman, Wawrinka, is No. 8. It may not be the biggest quarterfinal this year only because the French Open inexplicably seeded defending champion Rafa Nadal sixth for 2015, so Nadal will meet No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals — if both men win today.
But the quarterfinal match between the two Swiss is still a can’t miss. Despite a lopsided career edge for Federer — he’s won 16 of their 18 matches — Federer and Wawrinka have split their last two matches on clay. Federer beat Wawrinka earlier this year in Rome; Wawrinka toppled Federer last year at Monte Carlo. (Federer has won their two non-clay meetings in between.) The Federer-Wawrinka match is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3.
