When Calls the Heart is about Elizabeth Thatcher, a privileged young teacher whose first classroom assignment is in a small mining town, Hope Valley. When an explosion kills more than a dozen of the miners, the widows pick up their husbands’ jobs in the mines to make ends meet. One of the working widows is Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin). She befriends Elizabeth. But not everyone in town welcomes Elizabeth with open arms at first, including Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). The show is based on Janette Oke’s books about the Canadian West.
Elizabeth is portrayed by Erin Krakow. She’s best known for her role as Specialist Tayna Gabriel on Army Wives. When Calls the Heart airs Saturdays at 8pm on The Hallmark Channel. The show was created by Michael Landon, Jr., son of TV legend Michael Landon (Little House on the Prairie, Highway to Heaven, Bonanza).
