Fifth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki lost in straight sets to World No. 72 Julia Goerges in the second round of the French Open, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). The 24-year-old Wozniacki, a marvelous hard court player who has earned nearly $20 million in prize money since 2008, continues to struggle at Roland Garros.
Wozniacki’s recent woes may be less about the clay, however, than about the bad luck of her draw. Goerges, despite a far lower world ranking, has now beaten Wozniacki in four of the eight matches they’ve played.
