Former NBA star Dell Curry must feel pride mixed with a hint of bemusement this week. The all-time leading scorer for the Charlotte Hornets and member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Curry was chosen in the first round of the NBA draft in 1986. This is a man who was so good at sports that, as a senior in high school, he was also drafted by the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball. But two weeks ago his son Steph Curry won the NBA MVP and now he’s taken the Golden State Warriors to the conference finals for the first time since 1976.
Steph’s accomplishments were casting enough shade — albeit welcome shade — on the senior Curry. But now Dell’s wife (and Steph’s mom) Sonya Curry is lighting up the Internet simply by being the most gorgeous Warriors fan in the arena. The cameras can’t resist her and Twitter can’t get enough of Sonya Curry. Rightly so — Steph didn’t inherit all his skills from Pops; Sonya Curry was a volleyball star at Virginia Tech, where she met her husband Dell. In high school Sonya, too, was a hoops star. Now she owns and runs a Montessori school. That’s right: Sonya Curry is just a smart, talented, accomplished, athletic entrepreneur and educator. That’s all. And mother of an MVP.
