Cuban-born Grammy Award-winning singer Gloria Estefan and her music producing husband, Emilio Estefan, are producing a Broadway musical called On Your Feet. The power couple says it’s about their lives. “We’ve had to continuously get on our feet. From leaving our country – he went to Spain then he came here, I came at the age of 2,” said Gloria. The title has literal significance for Gloria. 25 years ago she was involved in a bus accident that left her critically injured. She was told she would never walk again.
On Your Feet will feature some of Estefan’s most popular songs including “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Conga,” “Get On Your Feet,” “Don’t Want To Lose You Now,” “1-2-3” and “Coming Out of the Dark.”The musical production will make a pre-Broadway run in Chicago at the Oriental Theatre beginning June 2. It’s directed by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), with choreography by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys), and an original book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman).
