American tennis star John Isner has made an impact on the minds of tennis fans. Standing 6’10” Isner is a memorable figure for anyone who has seen him play. He’s also part of history, being one half of the longest match ever played when he and Nicolas Mahut battled for 11 hours at Wimbledon in 2010. Isner plays consistently well, making him America’s best hope for a men’s Grand Slam winner.
But Isner lost to the home team in Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the second round of the French Open. Isner played well, but was up against an energetic, poised Chardy with a whole country behind him. “I could have beaten a lot of people out there today,” Isner said, “and he wasn’t one of them.”
