Deanna Johnson has made it to the Top 10 on The Voice. As a devout church-going Christian, she tends to sing faith-based songs including Oceans by Christian artists Hillsong United. While her voice was “as rich and buttery as ever” last week, she’s been told to show more range to win.
And Deanna got the message. She branched out to sing Bruno Mars’ It Will Rain (lyrics include ‘there’s no religion that can save me’). Her choice of costume might have helped, too. She wore a little black short-shorts number with a plunging neckline and exposed back. Of the performance, MusicTimes wrote: “It helped to move her away from the weird Christian chokehold and it was beautiful. I think her personality kind of did her in because she comes across as timid, and that’s not an engaging thing to watch. But, she connected tonight and sounded better than ever, clinching the instant Twitter save for herself.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
