For the second time this week, a hard-to-guard San Antonio Spur is twilight-talking that he’s just out to pitch in where he can. Don’t believe it. This time it’s Tony Parker talking about how the Spurs are Kawhi Leonard’s team now. No argument there. But here’s Parker (via Dan McCarney at MySanAntonio.com): “I’ll try to do my best to stay aggressive and be involved.” The hyper-aggressive Parker, who’s the point guard remember, will try to stay involved?
A few days earlier, Manu Ginobili–who Coach Popovich once called the “most aggressive player” he’d ever seen–was taking the same fake stroll, pretending to smell the flowers. Ginobili told poundingtherock.com that he has “less confidence” than before. “I’m just another cog that helps the team run…no longer the go-to guy to solve our problems.” He also said “I can’t play like I did.” These guys won the NBA championship last year, and they’re rolling again right now. Parker and Ginobili are going to be as aggressive as any two players in the league come the playoffs. Count on it. The talk otherwise is just rope-a-dope, sandbagging.
