Billy Donovan is the new head coach of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder. The 49-year-old was head coach of the University of Florida’s men’s basketball team for 19 years. Under his direction, the Gators won two national championships and made four Final Four appearances.
Matt McCall, Donovan’s former assistant and current coach at Chattanooga, said he couldn’t be happier for Donovan. “Not only is this a new challenge for him, but I think the guy’s going to be really, really good up there. Forget his team and the guys who are going to be on the team — it’s not even about that for me. For me, it’s about the fact he has no ego.” Donovan signed a five-year contract with OKC. Former coach Scott Brooks was dismissed last week.
