When Kobe Bryant scored his career high 81 points in a game, the Lakers won. That’s what makes Kobe’s scoring outburst a little different–in some quarters–than what’s been happening with Russell Westbrook lately. Westbrook has been putting up gaudy numbers all season, leading the league in triple doubles and going for 40-plus points nine times. With last year’s league MVP Kevin Durant out for the Thunder, Westbrook has been carrying the team. Problem is that in those nine games the Thunder is 2-7. And Westbrook’s shooting percentage can sometimes make Shaq’s career free throw mark look good.
Recently Westbrook’s taken some media heat for his 54 point game on Sunday in a loss, since it required 43 shot attempts. But come on, says Kobe Bryant–who, btw, was 28-of-46 when he got 81. Westbrook was amazing, doing everything he could to will a victory. Stop it, Kobe says, to the media. Westbrook is a beast and you don’t get it. End of story.
