We’re only a couple of weeks from Mad Men, and the Internet is already in mourning, whether it’s lamenting some of the characters we’ll never see again or wondering which of the crazy Reddit conspiracy theories hold any water. Earlier this week we were treated to some behind the scenes stories, including John Slattery’s embarrassment at wearing blackface, and 11-year-old Marten Weiner’s reluctance to put his head on January Jones’s chest (Jones figures he probably regrets that). The show’s star, Jon Hamm, revealed that Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston told him not playing Don Draper anymore would hit him hard when he least expected it. Don Draper’s alcoholism is a major part of the drama, so it’s somewhat sad to see real life imitating art. Hamm has just spent thirty days in a rehab facility for alcohol abuse.
TMZ reports that last month Hamm checked into the Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut. A statement from his representative reads “With the support of his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt, Jon Hamm recently completed treatment for his struggle with alcohol addiction. They have asked for privacy and sensitivity going forward.” This is not the first time the actor has sought help for a problem. He has spoken before about dealing with depression following the deaths of his parents (his mother died when Hamm was ten; his father when he was twenty), saying that “therapy … gives you another perspective when you are so lost in your own spiral, your own bullshit. It helps.”
