On the new drama American Crime, Barb — the mother of Matt, a young man who was brutally murdered in his home — is seeking justice. Not satisfied with the work of the local police department, Barb teams up with Nancy Straumberg, head of a Victim’s Rights Group, to obtain a hate crime charge against Carter who has been arrested as a suspect in Matt’s murder. Barb, an unabashed racist, is white. Carter is black.
Barb is played by Desperate Housewives alum Felicity Huffman and Straumberg is played by Lili Taylor. Taylor is best known for her film roles in Mystic Pizza, Say Anything…, Short Cuts, I Shot Andy Warhold and the TV show Six Feet Under. American Crime airs Thursdays at 10pm on ABC.
