Few could believe the news during last year’s Super Bowl that Seahawks superstar Richard Sherman’s father still rose at 3:45 am most days to drive a trash truck in LA. With the Seahawks back in the Super Bowl this year–and Richard Sherman playing under a new $56 million contract–Kevin Sherman is still driving his route. Though sometimes he’ll take a day off. He’s got just 18 months before his pension kicks in and Kevin doesn’t want his wealthy son to have to pay his medical benefits.
That’s the example Richard Sherman’s father–and his mother–always set for Sherman and his brother during their childhood in Compton. Richard Sherman learned his lessons well, graduating from high school with a 4.2 GPA and going on to Stanford. Even the next generation Sherman men are already expected to exhibit discipline.
