Kickass Torrents (KAT) is a website that “provides torrent files and magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing using the BitTorrent protocol.” In other words, it’s a piracy site – a place to download or stream copyrighted materials including movies, for free. It has run a number of domains including ka.tt, kickass.to, and kickass.so. The US Department of Justice and the High Court in London have blocked access to KAT based on copyright infringement laws.
In June 2013, KAT was delisted from Google. And in February 2014, Twitter started blocking links to KAT, temporarily. In February 2015, kickass.so (a Somalian domain) was banned by Whois, which caused the site to go offline. According to Wired, it has reverted to its former kickass.to domain.
