All of the famous NASCAR drivers are at Daytona this weekend including Tony Stewart. It’s protocol to weigh in with NASCAR officials prior to the start of each season. It’s supposed to determine how much ballast is allowed in each car, to level the playing field. But three drivers either forgot or neglected to weigh in before they hit the speedway, including Tony Stewart. The other two – Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer – acquiesced.
Stewart ignored the black flag until his practice run was over. According to SB Nation’s Jordan Bianchi, Stewart’s response to the black flag was: “”Go f—ing ask them. Go ask those f—ing rocket scientists why they f—ing black flagged us.” Since then Stewart retweeted nascarcasm: “NASCAR had several of NASA’s top rocket scientists making the drive north from Cape Canaveral to explain the black flag.” Can Stewart be fined for criticizing officials, like NBA player Chris Paul? Should he?
