The rumors are true: Pee-wee Herman is back for more adventures. Money-printing producer Judd Apatow is teaming with actor-writer Paul Reubens to bring back Pee-wee Herman. They’re skipping theaters and coming right into your home: Netflix has announced it will premiere Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. No release date is set.
The Pee-wee’s Big Holiday script is co-written by Reubens and Paul Rust, best known for his work on a show that describes Pee-wee Herman perfectly: Arrested Development. Netflix chief content officer said the company is “delighted by the opportunity to introduce such a beloved character to a new generation.” And while everybody wants new audiences, Netflix–which already streams lots of Pee-wee content–is clearly counting on people who grew up with Pee-wee to watch the new one, too. Netflix has the data and knows how to reach that audience. Paul Reubens, who created the strange and unforgettable character in the 1980s, is 62.
