Talking on Stephen A. Smith’s radio show, the irrepressible Magic Johnson advised Kobe Bryant to hang it up. That is, if making threats doesn’t work. Magic says it’ll be a waste for Bryant to come back to a Lakers team that’s just going to cellar-dwell again. The former star wants the fading star to put pressure on Lakers management to lasso a lifeline–someone named LeBron maybe?
Magic says Kobe should tell Lakers VP Jim Buss that “if you don’t sign one of these free agents, man, I’m just not going to play next year.” Should he just retire, asks Smith? “You almost gotta say that because if you come back with the same level of talent, you’re just going to have the same results.”
