View-Master is one of Mattel’s classic toys. For decades kids have held and looked into View-Masters to discover 3-D images. Part of the fun was controlling he experience–moving the lever to advance the reel to the next image.
Now Mattel is partnering with Google to create a new version of the toy that will tap into Google’s Cardboard VR tech. (VR for Virtual Reality.) Users will need a smartphone to use the new View-Master. “We’re creatively trying to figure out ways to use the old imagery in ways that enhance the new experience,” Mattel senior vice president Doug Wadleigh told USA Today. It will retail, in the fall, for $29.99. Additional reels will come in packs of four for $14.99.
