Apple’s long-rumored streaming music service may be just months away. In fact, your Apple device may be streaming some Mary J. Blige by the time the daffodils start popping up this spring. That’s the word from Apple–watching sage Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac. The new streaming service is thought to be part of Apple’s expected iOS 8.4 update.
As one commenter says “Apple doesn’t want to wait until September to launch Beats. They’ll want to have it out before summer. Music sales and radio listening spikes in the summer months, with people looking for that perfect summer party song.” That’s a reasonable assumption. Apple paid $3 billion for Beats last May. Launching a streaming service on the one year anniversary of that purchase would look pretty good.
