General Motors is taking Tesla to task with its new affordable electric car the Chevrolet Bolt. GM unveiled the concept for the $30,000 car this week. As with Tesla’s Model S all-electric sedan, to keep the weight down and to boost performance GM used aluminum on some of the car’s parts and the seats are thin. The low battery pack makes more space for passengers and cargo. The lithium-ion battery will provide over 200 miles of all-electric range. An 80 percent charge can be achieved in less than 45 minutes.
The Chicago Tribune says the Bolt “looks like a cross between a Volkswagen Golf and BMW’s electric i3.” The hatchback should be available in 2017.
