The Carolina Panthers face the defending Super Bowl champs the Seattle Seahawks at the Century Link Stadium on Saturday, January 10 (8pm on FOX). It’s an NFL Divisional matchup — Panthers (8-8-1), Seahawks (12-4). While the two defenses have improved a lot during the season, the key to beating Carolina will be containing the running of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. He finished the season with 539 rushing yards, third-most among NFL quarterbacks.
As the Seattle Times reports: Seattle defenders say they’ll need to keep Newton in the pocket and tackle him low since the 6-5, 245-pounder, has the strength to easily fend off high arm tackles. “He’s bigger than me up top,’’ said Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin who had two sacks of Newton in the game earlier this season. “You’ve got to really track him down and get those legs. You can’t run without your legs.’’
