Bree’s Sweet Treats started as a way for a 12-year-old girl to do what she loved–baking cupcakes and cookies–and learn a few lessons about responsibility. Four years later and 16-year-old Breana “Bree” Britt has her own store in Accokeek, Maryland, local delivery to all Washington, DC area locations, and a nationwide online delivery business.
How Bree’s story began is told poignantly on the Bree’s Sweet Treats site: “Bree got a head start on learning how to bake. Her love for all things confectionary began when she was only 5 years old. While her father was serving in the Army, he suffered a traumatic brain injury during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her great-grandmothers Lily and Eva began teaching Bree to bake as a distraction. The more Bree baked, the more she loved the process. She started inventing her own recipes.” In addition to the thriving business, she remains a high school honors student.
