The organization Code.org is behind the Hour of Code campaign that is encouraging people “age six to 96” to learn the basics of writing a computer program in just one hour by having them code a simple game. Free tutorials are available. The tutorials are compatible with most devices including smartphones and tablets. Tons of events are happening this week as December 8-14 is Computer Science Education Week.
The man behind Code.org is Hadi Partovi. A graduate of Harvard University, Hadi started his career as Microsoft’s Group Program Manager for Internet Explorer. His first company Tellme Networks was bought by Microsoft for $800 million. After Microsoft, he co-founded iLike with his twin brother Ali. iLike was acquired by MySpace.
