Floyd Mayweather may not be a top notch reader, but he knows his own name and exactly what time it is. (Mayweather has been looking at his calendar.) Responding to the unceasing clamor for a fight between the two most famous boxers currently on the planet, Mayweather says that come May, the weather looks just right for him to fight Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather is undefeated (46-0, 26 KOs) and, at 37, is looking for the biggest payday of his extremely lucrative career. Mayweather has said in the past that a Pacquiao fight would be the last of his career. But if the proposed May fight happens, it’ll doubtless follow a very familiar Hollywood script: there will inevitably be a very big budget sequel. The money is just too big. (And btw, as part of the deal, Mayweather wants a guarantee he’ll get most of it.)
“We want the fight, we are ready,” Mayweather told Showtime Sports on Friday. “Let’s make it happen on May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let’s do it.” Pacquiao is 57-5-2 with 38 KOs. He’s 35 years old. They’ve each accused the other fighter of “ducking” this fight, usually with disagreements about money as the main excuse.
