On January 1, 2015, the Chicago Blackhawks will play the Washington Capitals at the annual Winter Classic. This year it’s at Nationals Park in the nation’s capital. It’s been an emotional week for the Blackhawks, as their young assistant equipment manager, Clint Reif, suddenly died. The Blackhawks will honor Reif at the Winter Classic, and so will the Capitals.
According to Chris Kuc, hockey writer for the Chicago Tribune, Capitals coach Barry Trotz called Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville “to make sure it was OK for his team to wear CR decals on their helmets.”
