Alex Garland, the writer and producer of sci-fi films Sunshine and 28 Days Later is making his directorial debut with Ex Machina. The psychological thriller centers on a billionaire programmer (Oscar Isaac, Star Wars: Episode VII) who rewards a young employee (Domhnall Gleeson, also in Star Wars: Episode VII) with a week’s vacation at his private, remote estate.
Turns out the boss has chosen the young man to be the human component in a Turing test. The boss is out to evaluate his new, sexy artificial intelligence robot (Alicia Vikander, Anna Karenina). She’s not just beautiful to look at, she’s downright seductive and deceptive…more than even her creator could have imagined. Ex Machina will be released in April 2015.
