There are going to be a lot of sad Cumberbitches today. Benedict Cumberbatch is officially off the market. The Sherlock star and heartthrob is getting married to actress and director Sophie Hunter. The engagement was announced simply in the ‘Forthcoming Marriages’ section of the London Times. Our sympathies to his legion of female fans; we hope they take comfort in knowing the sex will probably be explosive.
“Not unlike his fellow newly betrothed heartthrob, George Clooney, Cumberbatch seems to be settling down with a woman who has established an impressive career of her own,” writes Vanity Fair. “Hunter won a Samuel Beckett award in 2007 for directing her own play The Terrific Electric, and has since directed classics like Ibsen’s Ghosts and Mozart’s The Magic Flute. She also acts, starring alongside her soon-to-be-husband in 2009’s Burlesque Fairytales.”
