Eleven seconds left in a tie ballgame and head coach Kobe Bry—err, head coach Byron Scott does the predictable. He calls Kobe Bryant’s number. The Lakers have won an amazing two in a row since Nick Young’s return and they’re on the brink of banking a triple. That’ll show the Clippers who’s boss of LA.
Bryant is in full badass mode. The Lakers clear out the left side for him–they all stand on the right like they’re about to watch a movie. Bryant doesn’t really try to penetrate, couple of jab steps but no movement. Then a sort of aimless dribble sequence moves him toward the sideline. He leaps and chucks a fadeaway that clangs off the back of the rim. Movie over. Nick Young puts down popcorn. Jeremy Lin eats one last Twizzler. The entire Lakers roster at once softly mutters under its breath, yeah, great shot Kobe. Nobody dare speak this thought out loud. Into overtime. Lakers lose 101-94.
