During an interview with novelist/filmmaker Bret Easton Ellis (Less Than Zero, American Psycho), actress/filmmaker and LGBT activist Rose McGowan (Charmed) said she’s frustrated “with what she sees as a lack of support from the gay community for women’s rights.” She went to say that “gays are as misogynistic (as straight men), if not more so. …I have an indictment of the gay community right now; I’m actually really upset with them.”
Many people in the gay community responded via Twitter, including Christopher who wrote: “The LGBT community does not need Rose McGowan. She’s a homophobe masquerading as an advocate. Go away, Rose. The door has closed behind you.” After the backlash hit, McGowan posted an apology on The Advocate for making “a dumb generalization.” For that she apologized but not for everything else she said. Some say she has a point but should have phrased it better.
