Showtime has announced that the creepy cult TV drama Twin Peaks will return as a new limited series on Showtime in 2016. Series creators David Lynch (Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart) and Mark Frost (Fantastic 4) will write and produce all nine episodes. Lynch will direct every episode, duh. Set in 2016, the new Twin Peaks will “continue the lore of the original series, providing long-awaited answers and a satisfying conclusion for the series’ passionate fan base.” Rumor has it actor Kyle MacLachlan will return as Special Agent Dale Cooper.
Fun fact, Mark Frost wrote two episodes for the 1970s hit TV show The Six Million Dollar Man starring Lee Majors as the bionic man, Steve Austin. Frost wrote the 1975 episode “Return of the Robot Maker.” That’s the one where Oscar Goldman is replaced by a robot and sends Steve on a suicide mission. Steve is forced to kill Robot Oscar. If the plot worked for the bionic man it could work for Agent Cooper, too. Lynch, who once adapted the science fiction hit Dune (starring Kyle MacLachlan!), might love it. And nothing is too weird for Twin Peaks!
