Florida State (6-0 ) hasn’t lost but they dropped to No. 2 in the rankings anyway going into this week’s big Saturday night battle with undefeated rival Notre Dame. Are the mighty Seminoles vulnerable? For the No. 6 Irish FSU represents their toughest game of a difficult season–but if Notre Dame can emerge victorious on the road in Tallahassee they’ll have huge momentum going forward. An undefeated campaign wouldn’t be unlikely.
Much of the talk centers around what a loss would mean for defending national champion Florida State, which has looked lackluster in spots. ND is the last ranked team the Seminoles face–probably the only chance for them to lose–and an undefeated FSU season makes them a virtual lock for the playoffs. But Notre Dame, with No. 17 Arizona State and No. 22 USC still ahead, may have even more at stake. It’s the first time since the 1993 “Game of the Century” between these two teams where a game between them has meant so much to both. In ’93 they were ranked No. 1 and No. 2. This is almost the same thing. Saturday night at 8 pm on ABC.
