This morning, I woke to the news that Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai had jointly been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. I had been a great fan of Malala since learning of her story, but I did not know much about Satyarthi, the man she will share the award with. I didn’t know how familiar both of the laureates were to me until I shared the news of their recognition on Facebook.
I wrote a quick status update to Facebook about the announcement of the Peace Prize. With it, I pasted a sketch of the recipients I had found on the Nobel website. Before I could hit post, Facebook’s facial recognition algorithm identified the sketch of Kailash Satyarthi and Malala as a portrait of my Facebook friends D. Foy, author of Made to Break and theatrical director Matthew Earnest. Keep up the good work boys… I’m glad to know you.
