Ronnie Price is unheralded, at least he was until now. The 6’2″ journeyman guard who wasn’t drafted coming out of Utah Valley in 2005 has made an unlikely career for himself in the NBA–playing for the Kings, Jazz, Suns, Blazers, Magic and now the Lakers. Yesterday Kobe Bryant picked Price out of the Lakers’ lineup for praise. If you want to get some attention for your basketball game in Los Angeles, having Kobe Bryant namecheck you is a pretty good way to do it.
All that time in the NBA and Ronnie Price doesn’t forget that he wasn’t drafted or how he’s managed to hang around. He runs and runs and never stops. And he defends like the basket is a sacred place. That’s what Kobe Bryant noticed, telling the LA Times that “Price looked really good. He looked like he could run all day.” Undrafted guys have to. Free agents, too, which is what Price is right now in the Lakers camp. He just got one powerful endorsement.
