Author J.K. Rowling teased fans into believing she would reveal the inspiration behind her unlikeable character Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter books. Umbridge (played by Imelda Staunton on film) is the one who bans young Harry from playing Quidditch and forces him to write the words “I must not tell lies” on the back of his hand.
Here’s the big reveal: Rowling says Umbridge was based on “a teacher to whom she took an instant dislike.” She was a teacher Rowling had “long ago…in a certain skill or subject.” We didn’t expect to learn the woman’s name but that is one lame reveal. Boo, J.K. Rowling!
