Katherine Heigl plays Charleston “Charlie” Tucker on the TV series State of Affairs. She’s a former CIA officer who becomes the daily briefer to the President of the United States (Alfre Woodard) who is the mother of Charlie’s former fiancé (he was killed in a terrorist attack). State of Affairs joins a growing list of TV series that feature women in the White House—including HBO’s comedy VEEP (Julia Louis-Dreyfrus), and CBS’ drama Madam Secretary (Téa Leoni).
State of Affairs will premiere on NBC on November 17. It should have a sinister feel to it. The creator is Joe Carnahan, producer of that other federal agent TV show The Blacklist, starring James Spader and, soon, Mary Louise Parker of Weeds.
